A crash sent a car into CT Auto Body and Paint, dislodging the gas valve, Jan. 19, 2015 (KOIN 6 News) PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A two-car crash sent one car into a building in Southeast Portland, pinning two people inside and causing a gas leak in the area.
The crash happened at SE 82nd and Yamhill, Portland police said. Firefighters worked with natural gas workers to shut the gas off at CT Auto Body and Paint after the car dislodged the gas meter and valve.
The driver of the car that smashed into the building was found unconscious and sustained serious trauma, according to Portland Fire & Rescue officials. Both of the car's crash victims were transported to a nearby hospital, though the passenger's injuries are considered non-life threatening.
The driver of the other vehicle was its lone occupant and was unhurt, firefighters say.
NW Natural Gas workers managed to shut off the gas, and while those in surrounding buildings were forced to evacuate, no gas was detected in any nearby structure.
No one involved in the crash is believed to have been intoxicated.
The intersection and streets surrounding the crash are closed until an investigation can be completed and NNG workers can repair the broken line.
KOIN 6 News will have more information later in the day.
